This is something that has plagued my mind for years. I've tried googling it, I've tried asking friends and family members. NEVER AN ANSWER. I think if it came down to it I may have just gone into a jewelry store and asked the question myself, at the risk of looking like a crazed lunatic.
Why are watches always set to 10:10 in magazines and television ads?
Have you notied that? Well this morning I went to check my blog e-mail and this great article came up on the Yahoo headlines: "Why is 10:10 the Default Setting for Clocks and Watches?" So you can just imagine my excitement when I read that!!!
Well, I was somewhat let down by what I found. The reasoning: aesthetics! Here's what the marketing geniuses at Timex have to say about the matter:
"The standard setting used to be 8:20, but this made the face look like it was frowning. To make the products look “happier,” the setting was flipped into a smile."
Really? I wanted it to be some top secret government conspiracy.

I'm pretty sure it is some kind of top secret government conspiracy and the "smile" story is just a huge cover up! They knew you were onto them!

Go figure... but now that you've mentioned it, I am sure I am going to notice way more watches set at 10:10!
Weird! My bf is into watches lately (I guess it's like jewelry for guys...?) so I'm totally passing this on to him.
