The Price of Beauty

If you are anything like me, you squealed with delight at the news that Jessica Simpson has a new show on TV. Being an former Newlyweds fanatic, nothing could possibly be better than a new show with her! So last night I finally got to check out the new show called Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty. I LOVE that Cacee is back, and Ken Paves is pretty funny/interesting too even though I don't know much about him. Basically the show features the trio traveling around the world, meeting with a different "beauty ambassador" in each country, trying to discover what beauty means in different cultures. I have only watched the France and Thailand episodes so far, but I will certainly be adding the rest to my dvr list. I definitely recommend checking it out if you are into these types of shows.

Weekend Update

So last night my girlfriends and I went into Philadelphia for dinner at an AMAZING restaurant called Giorgio's. It was BYOB so naturally all five of us brought bottles of wine. One bottle per person = so dangerous! But so much fun :) The food was great and we had some fun girl time.

Unfortunately I, being the world's biggest scatterbrain, forgot my wallet and only realized it once we were almost at the restaurant. My friends spotted me for dinner but I couldn't join them going out to the bars afterwards. When will I grow out of this forgetfulness? I am such an airheads sometimes. So frustrating. But overall the night was fun and at least I got to enjoy our dinner. This morning I won't lie I am feeling seriously hungover. I drove C to work around 8 this morning and I've been here on the couch ever since. I didn't realize it until just now but a lazy Saturday is exactly what I have been needing in my life!

Waitressing has been going really well! I like working brunch a lot more than dinner. Mostly because brunch is only one course making my work easier, and people eat faster at brunch so I can turn tables more quickly. Turning tables equals more money for me! :)

Finals start in about a month. I am nowhere near as nervous as I was last semester. I feel like a seasoned vet after only one semester in law school. Everyone was so right when they told me law school gets easier as time goes by. You just get used to always being busy, always feeling overworked, and always running out of hours in the day to do everything you need to do. Sad but true.

Speaking of law-related stuff, I met an attorney on the train back from Philly last night. Mind you it was 11:30 at night, and the poor guy was just leaving work. Please God never let that be me. Anyway, Feeling brave after downing basically a bottle of wine to myself (yikes), I turned on my schmooze button full force and started asking a bunch of questions about how he likes being a lawyer, if he had any advice, etc. The whole time I kept wishfully thinking, maybe this will lead to a good connection. Low and behold he knows a young attorney (and recent Villanova grad) who frequently hires 1L and 2L interns, and he gave me her name and contact info. Woohoo! It can't hurt to send my resume over to her, right? It's all about who you know in this world!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I hope you all have a wonderful day celebrating everything Irish & green! And hopefully having a few pints too :) I am having an anti-law school night and doing all of the above. Cheers!

PS: That's the fabulous rugby C brought home for me from his trip to Ireland. Pink and green, the boy knows me well!

First Dinner Night Nerves!

Tonight I am waitressing during dinner for the first time by myself. That means my training is over! YIKES. I am so nervous. What really makes me nervous about the whole thing is the fact that we don't have any hostesses, bus boys, or food runners. The restaurant is small, so I am guessing they just have the waitstaff do all that stuff to cut costs. It just makes things more stressful for me that way.

The hardest thing for me so far has been knowing when to place the orders. It's all about timing, timing, timing! I watch the person I'm training with and they just seem to know exactly how to time the order, for example they understand when it's a good time to send in the entree order in relation to when the customers have finished their appetizers. That will hopefully be something that comes with practice.

There really is so much to get used to. Having worked a secretary/receptionist type job all through high school and college, I feel out of my element in a restaurant now. But I'll be okay! It's all about getting comfortable and then it should become second nature for me. If all else fails, I'll just smile, explain that I'm new, and hope that they have mercy on me :)

Off to school I go now. It's gonna be a LONG day...

Keep Calm & Carry On Giveaway

In celebration of reaching her 200th blog post, Fab Brunette is giving away two 8″ x 10″ Keep Calm and Carry On Posters from The Keep Calm Shop on Etsy.

These are so clever! I am thinking of getting a few of the coffee/drink themed posters and framing them for our new kitchen once it's done. They come in a variety of sayings like "Keep Calm and Drink Coffee," or "Keep Calm and Read On." How appropriate for my life!

Don't forget to enter her giveaway before March 15th at Midnight! Good luck :)

Happy Monday & Oscar Dress Recap

Good morning ladies! Just a quick blog before it's back to my classes for the semester! Boohoo.. Spring break is officially over. Though I am sad it has ended, I'm happy to have C back home with me, and to get back into our regular routine.

I have some cool pictures to share from his trip, which I should get around to posting this week. C also got me a FABULOUS and of course PINK AND GREEN rugby from Ireland. It's TOO perfect. I'm wearing it to classes today, and may even pair it with some jeans & flipflips because it's going to be a high of around 60 in Pennsylvania today! Woohoo! Spring is SO soon and it just feels wonderful. It's only a matter of time before the summer is here. Or am I getting too ahead of myself now? Oh well :)

Did you all watch the Academy Awards last night? I LOVED the Barbara Walters special before. I'm sad she won't be doing those anymore. But it was lovely while it lasted. Who do you think was the best dressed? The worst? I think Maggie Gyllenhal picked a pretty hideous dress....

On the other hand, I loved what Sarah Jessica Parker wore. I think people may disagree with me on this one, but she's just too adorable. Her tiny frame looks good in anything!

I actually really liked the dress Miley Cyrus wore. However, I thought the center ribbon was a bit too tight. What do you think?

I Got the Job!

So my interview at the restaurant went very well. I officially start tonight as a waitress! Well, actually I'm just training. Which I'm thankful for, because their computer system for orders scares the hell out of me lol. I am starting at 5pm and should hopefully be out around 11, since they stop serving at 10.

Also, C comes home from Ireland tomorrow. I absolute cannot wait to see him! We are having a great dinner at home (roast pork loin and scalloped potatoes) and relaxing together. It's going to be so great having him back.

Well, that's all for now. Wish me luck tonight!!

Not the Best Day I've Ever Had..

Today I put on a size 6 pair of pants that I used to SWIM in. Seriously, I used to rarely even wear them because they were so baggy. Well, today they wouldn't button. Absolute worst feeling ever.

To make my day worse, I got an e-mail from C (his cell phone doesn't make calls in Europe) about 40 minutes too late telling me to go online. By the time I checked my e-mail, he had gone offline so I couldn't video chat with him. Ugh. I just want him to come home now. I'm tired of this distance, it's really getting to me. Yes, yes I know, it's only a week. But it sucks! My feelings of loneliness are only exacerbated by the fact that all my friends are also not around this week. Have you ever been totally alone like this? God, I can't even imagine what it would be like to move to a new city not knowing ANYONE. I guess I'm kind of being a baby about the whole thing, but I've been pretty good about keeping it together all week. Now I just want my boyfriend back at home.

I woke up early(ish) to clean the apartment because C's mom is coming to visit tonight. We're going to an early dinner then coming back to my apartment to catch American Idol and all the other Thursday night shows. I guess she sensed how lonely I've been this week because she offered to come keep me company. Very sweet of her! Tomorrow we're heading to Ikea to look for ideas for our new kitchen. I cannot WAIT to replace the bland college-dorm looking kitchen we have right now. It has got to go!! Yuck.

That's all I have for now, I promise more cheery posts will be on the way once C & friends return from Spring Break. Once life goes back to normal! Let me just say one thing, I never thought in a million years I'd be looking forward to the end of my law school spring break. I must be crazy!

You Know You Love Me..

I am officially back into Gossip Girl mode full swing. Addicted as ever! I can't believe I gave it up for almost this entire season. Thank goodness for recordable television! Now I am fully caught up and ready for the new episodes to begin again next week.

What is one TV show that you look forward to every week?

A Great Giveaway for an IMPORTANT Cause

College Prepster is giving away a fabulously preppy and sleek Anne Klein watch. You get to pick from five different options! I'm currently torn between Option 1 and Option 5. Lol! I'm speaking as if I've already won. I guess I'm a bit ahead of myself! Here is an example of one of the watches:

Could it be any more appropriate? No, I think not.

ANYWAY, not only are these watches adorable and up for grabs, but College Prepster has appropriately titled her giveaway, "The Time for Change is Now." Meaning, of course, that the time to make a change and stop HIV/AIDS is NOW. She has been doing an awesome job working for that change with a group called Team Up, a Grassroot Project that uses Division I student athletes as role models to teach at-risk DC youth about ways to prevent contracting HIV/AIDS. Team Up is also planning to run programs Soweto, South Africa leading up to World Cup 2010.

I just think this project is great. It's such a unique and modern approach to the issue of HIV/AIDS. What better way to get the attention of young people than to incorporate the love of sports? Who do children look up to more than athletes?

Click here to enter the giveaway and to see the rest of the fabulous watches.

Remember, the time for change is NOW!

There's My Girl!

It's been a while since we've heard from Reese Witherspoon. I hope she makes a comeback soon with something along the lines of Sweet Home Alabama. Love her girly stuff!!!

Chris Velan

Last year, while visiting Quebec, C and I saw a performance by an awesome Canadian musician named Chris Velan. He reminds me of a Cat Stevens/Ray Lamontagne hybrid. I love his sound! It's really relaxing to me. And since that's about all I have to offer in the way of musical journalism, I'll just leave you with a video of one of his live performances at Bryant Park. If you like what you hear, you can friend him on Facebook or check out his official site at ChrisVelan.com

Free Admission!

Do you have Bank of America? If you do, there's a really great offer currently going on! If you just show your Bank of America debit or credit card, you can get free general admission on the first full weekend of every month to hundreds of different museums and zoos around the country. I figured it would be a bunch of random museums that no one's ever heard of, but I was wrong! Since I live in the Philadelphia area, I checked the website, entered my city, and found out that I have free admission to the Museum of Art. Cool huh?

Click here to see the list of places where this deal applies.

Also, even if you don't have Bank of America, don't forget that a lot of museums do free (or voluntary) admission on the first Sunday of every month. Such a cheap and fun date idea!

To Spanx or Not to Spanx?

Ok I'm opening this one up to all of my lovely readers. Yay or Nay on the Spanx? I've been on the fence. Is it a worthwhile purchase? Let me hear what you all think!

Barbri Lecture Videos Own My Life

Today I'm watching about six total hours of Barbri lecture videos. If you aren't in law school you (rightfully) have no idea what in the heck a Barbri video is. However, I'm sure my law school gals feel my pain. Some people ask me why I bother watching these videos when I can just download the outline from Barbri with all the same material. But I just get a lot more out of hearing all the little mnemonic devices and things that the Barbri profs come up with to attach the info to our brains.

Here's one fine example... The Sinaed O'Connor Principle of Property: "Living people have no hairs (heirs)." How awful was that? Almost so bad it hurts. But, if corny jokes will make me remember the info then it's okay by me. I'll admit I enjoy a bad joke every now and then.

Before I go back to my studying, I want to share one other funny little tidbit. The professor was explaining how interested in Pokemon her son was when he was 3. So one day they were in the video store together. The son rented two new Pokemon videos and Mommy rented Good Will Hunting. The son, being in his acquisitive stage and wanting everything for himself, wanted to know if Good Will Hunting was also for him to watch. Mommy quickly explained, "No, sweetheart, this is an adult movie. You're a kid so you watch Pokemon, but this movie is only for adults." Later on, in the grocery store, the son was chatting with the clerk at checkout and happened to share a nice little detail with the clerk: "Today I got to rent two new Pokemon videos, and Mommy got to rent an adult video!"

HAHA. I had a pretty good chuckle at that one. Ok, back to the books.

xx

Little Photoshop of Horrors

What have they DONE to her? Such a tragedy! The lip area of this photo is really freaking me out. Can we even call this a photo anymore? Let's call it a painting to keep things realistic.
